Brian Anweiler started at Northern Virginia Community College in January 2009 as the College-wide Student Life Coordinator after spending 17 years at Tallahassee Community College (TCC). In his current role at NOVA, he works with students on college-wide initiatives including intercollegiate athletics, recreation, student media, student leadership recognition and development, and the annual NOVA Idol singing competition.
While at NOVA, Anweiler managed the transition from club sport status for all athletic teams to membership in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in 2011. Anweiler served as the acting athletic director at NOVA from 2009 through late 2013 when the college hired a fulltime athletic director.
Anweiler held several positions at TCC throughout his tenure at the College. He started at TCC working with the men’s basketball team as a student assistant and subsequently worked his way into several leadership positions.
Most recently, Anweiler served as Director of Athletics overseeing TCC’s four sports teams. His tenure as athletic director were highlighted by many exciting opportunities for the Eagles. In 2006, the TCC’s men’s basketball team played in the NJCAA national championship game. In 2008, the TCC Lady Eagles softball team also competed in the national championship tournament. In addition, several athletic facility enhancements were completed during his tenure. Academically, 97 students signed with four-year colleges and universities and 114 were all-academic team honorees during his time overseeing TCC athletics.
In addition to his experience directing a two-year college athletic program, Anweiler served for over nine years in the TCC Communications Office. He worked closely with the media, covered countless college events and, during a period of transition, served as the interim communications director.
He currently also serves as an adjunct professor at George Mason University in the School or Recreation, Health, and Tourism teaching Economics & Finance in the Sport Industry.
Anweiler is a 1994 graduate of TCC. He earned his bachelor’s degree in media communication from Florida State University in 1997. Anweiler earned his master’s degree in Physical Education (Sport Administration) in 2000.
