SALISBURY, Md. – In her first collegiate race, Northern Virginia Community College freshman Kmaljeet Athwal broke the program mark for the fastest time in a 6k to help the Nighthawks finish fourth at the Salisbury Fall Classic Saturday morning.
Athwal finished her race in 23 minutes, 19 seconds, which bested the previous mark set by Heather Mwitanti (24:57) in 2012.
Taking the team title was NCAA Division II Kutztown, who closed the morning with 29 points, while fourth place NOVA had 105 points and finished ahead of NJCAA counterparts Delaware Tech and Anne Arundel.
Behind Compton was Sarah Dierlam (27:32), who set a new personal best time, while Joanna Rohrbach (29:03) and Berith Austin (29:57) were next for NOVA as they crossed the finish line in 38th and 39th respectively.
Rounding out the Nighthawks runners was freshman Margaret Vera, who had a time of 30:39.
