MC HENRY, Md. – Deontae Compton scored 19 points, while Terrell Walker and Robert Tartt added 17 and 13 respectively, but the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team dropped a 74-71 decision at Garrett Wednesday evening.
The Nighthawks saw their six-game winning streak come to end and fall to 9-10 this season. NOVA travels to in-state foe Thomas Nelson Saturday afternoon.
After going down into an 11-point hole midway through the first half, the Nighthawks battled back and took a one-point lead with 24 seconds left in the stanza on Michael Elliot's trifecta. The Lakers, however, went down to the other end of the floor and hit a buzzer beating three to go into the locker room up 33-31.
In the second half, NOVA went down by as much as 14 with just over four minutes left in the game. The Nighthawks again fought back and got within two (73-71) on Walker's only three, but they could not draw any closer.
