Nighthawks blitz Cougars with 18 three’s

FREDERICK, Md. – Michael Elliot nailed 12 three-point field goals and scored a school record 41 points to help give the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team a 105-87 victory over No. 19 Frederick Thursday night in Region 20 action.

The Nighthawks finish the regular season at 14-11 and return to action Friday, March 8 against Frederick in the first round of the NJCAA Region 20 Tournament

FCC jumped on top early 6-0, but NOVA responded with a game changing 15-0 run that was capped off by a Terrell Walker layup, as he finished with 25. Near the end of the opening half, Elliot put the Nighthawks up 18 with a three.

Midway through the second period, Myles Suggs gave NOVA a 30-point advantage, which was its largest lead of the night. Later in the half, Elliot hit his school record breaking 12th three and his 41st point of the evening with 5:42 left in the game.

Also, in double figures for NOVA was Deontae Compton and Robert Tartt, who added 12 and 14 points respectively. Corey McGhee, meanwhile, dished five assists and pulled down seven rebounds.
