ANNANDALE – Four scored in double figures to help lead the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team to an 87-65 victory over I-95 foe Richard Bland Wednesday evening inside Ernst Gymnasium.
With the victory the Nighthawks improve to 1-2 and are back home Thursday, Nov. 14 against instate rival Thomas Nelson.
The Statemen scored the first points of the game, and the teams proceeded to go back and forth until Tyland Crawford, who scored 26 points nailed a three with just under 13 minutes left in the opening half.
Following an RBC turnover, Luke Jones scored down low to jump start a 10-0 Nighthawks run, which helped put NOVA on top 22-10. The Statesmen, however got within eight, but the Nighthawks quikly put the lead back over double digits.
To finish off the first period, Abdullahi Hussein and Crawford scored NOVA's next five points to make it 36-23 at the break.
After intermission, the Nighthawks kept their advantage up over 10 points and built a 20 point lead midway through the half when Hussein scored on a pair of free throws. A few minutes later Hussein tickled the twine again on a layup to make it a 21 point cushion for NOVA.
RBC wouldn't threaten the rest of the game, as the Nighthawks held the Statesmen to just three points over the final three minutes.
