Third period dooms NOVA

NOKESVILLE, Va. -- Six third period goals by 5th ranked Anne Arundel Community College put the 10th ranked Northern Virginia Community College lacrosse team in a hole it could not escape from, as the green and gold fell 16-11 Wednesday afternoon.

Pete Callahan scored the first goals for NOVA to tie the game at two, but with 5:29 left in the opening frame, Darek Davis netted his second goal to put the Pioneers up 3-2.

In the second stanza, Laron Hinton tied things up again for the green and gold. However, AACC put two quick ones in the net and NOVA was not able to go on a long run to take command of the game.

AACC scored four straight goals in the third quarter before NOVA was able to stop the bleeding on another Hinton goal.

Between the posts for NOVA was Connor Delery, who stopped 19 of the 35 shots he faced, while Pioneer goalie Michael Reigle had 10 saves in 21 chances.

The next action for NOVA is Sunday at 1 p.m, against SUNY Broome Community College at the Grizzly Sports Complex.
