ARNOLD, Md. – Chyann Hooker had four hits and two RBIs Wednesday for the Northern Virginia Community College softball team, but the Nighthawks were swept in a doubleheader by Region 20 foe Anne Arundel, 11-1 and 23-5.
NOVA falls to 0-4 this season and returns to the field Friday at in-state foe Christendom inside Bing Crosby Stadium
Three Nighthawks had a hit, while Rheana Gray knocked a run in at AACC to help the NOVA offense. The Nighthawks, however were held hitless until two outs in the third and scored their only run in the fourth.
The Nighthawks were hindered by 13 defensive miscues, which led to eight unearned runs. Lexi Brummett was in the circle for NOVA, as she went four innings and fanned two, while walking eight.
In the nightcap, Hooker was 3-for-3 and scored run, as the preseason All-American helped the Nighthawks jump out to a 1-0 lead after a half inning. Five of the first six hitters for NOVA all collected a hit in the game.
Gray took the ball for the Nighthawks in game two, but she allowed 16 earned runs and walked five in four innings of work. Her counterpart Logan Endley-Abbott, meanwhile, fanned seven NOVA batters in her complete game victory.
