Tough fourth quarter for NOVA

CATONSVILLE, Md. – A pair of 20-point scorers led the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team Tuesday evening, but CCBC Catonsville came out on top in the regular season finale 75-64 during NJCAA Region 20 Division II action.

The Nighthawks finish the 2018-19 regular campaign 10-13 and will be back in action March 7 in the first round of the NJCAA Region 20 Tournament.

At halftime, NOVA found itself down by four and were able to continue to keep the score within ear shot in the third quarter. The Nighthawks were down 50-46 following two of Mia Buchanon's 20 points on a bucket inside the paint about midway through.

However, NOVA was not able to get any closer than four because the Cardinals responded with a 6-0 run to go up 10 with 2:58 left in the third.

Later in the same quarter, the Nighthawks battled back as Buchanon hit the back end of two free throws to bring the score to 60-55.

Early in the fourth period, NOVA hung close and kept it a two-possession game when Natasha Porter drained a three to make it 70-64. That however would be the last Nighthawk basket, as CCBC Catonsville kept NOVA off the scoreboard for the final 3:55.
