ANNANDALE – The month of September is coming to close, and the Northern Virginia Community College cross country, soccer and volleyball teams are all in action to complete the first month of play.

Freshman Tyler Means has had a 10th place finish and 53rd through the first two races this season. Both times for Means have cracked the Nighthawks record books in the 5-kilometer and 6-k events.
Following a season opening victory at Hagerstown, the Nighthawks have struggled to regain their footing has they have dropped three straight one goal decisions. NOVA had back-to-back 1-0 losses and last week fell 3-2 at Christendom.
The Nighthawks, who are 0-1-0 in the Region 20 Division III standings host Howard Friday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. The Dragons are 5-4-0 this season and have won five out of the last seven matches.
NOVA won two of the its three matches last week – with victories coming over Beaver County and Potomac State. The Nighthawks, however fell in straight sets at Frederick to see their record go to 3-1 in NJCAA Region 20 Division II play.
In the early goings of the season, Brittany Connatser is third in the region in kills (79), Elena Swale is third in assists (166) and Hailey Villegas is 10th in service aces (19). Mollie Simon, meanwhile, tops the region in total blocks (27).
