Merck named cross country coach

ANNANDALE – Northern Virginia Community College Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka has announced the hiring of Josh Merck as the new Nighthawks head cross country coach.

Merck comes to NOVA from Wakefield High School where he was the interim indoor and outdoor track and field coach during the 2016-17 school year. Prior to Wakefield, Merck was the head men’s and women’s coach at Marymount University from 2009 until 2012.

Under his tutelage at Marymount, Jessica Daley earned the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, and the women’s team had the highest finish in the conference championship in program history.

“With Josh’s experience at the high school and intercollegiate level I believe we have found the best fit to lead our cross country team at NOVA,” Mrowka said. “With Josh’s knowledge of this area’s high school talent I know he will put together the best team possible.”

Merck holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science degree in School Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
